The white varsity volleyball team, a mix of JV and varsity players, brought home the OIA Division II Championship title on October 11th, at McKinley High School. The team used the rough start of losing the first set as their motivation to push through the next two, defeating Kaiser, 15-9 in the final set.

“They worked really hard and their team identity was much stronger,” Mr. Yokota, Assistant Athletic Director, says when describing the reason why they won.

Talent can bring an athlete accolades and attention, but the ability to use it to work together will bring the kind of success that extends beyond the court. In preparation for the game, practices became difficult, each one consisting of running five warm-up laps, blocking and spiking, and passing and serving.

Kailee Chang, junior, beams as she exclaims about how “happy” and “proud” she is of her team for picking themselves up from their highs and lows and working together to achieve their win.

“We wanted it and we fought for it,” says senior Gha Yee Ng.
